Announcement:
Well folks, there will not be a New River Rendezvous in 2012. The reasons are numerous, but one stands out as especially important. We do not have use of our historical venue, Burnwood, this year. When it became apparent that this was the case we began to search for a substitute. We found one that had a lot of potential but it’s on private property and it’s 8 miles up the road. As many of you are aware, planning and executing the New River Rendezvous has always been challenging, and with additional permit requirements and 16 miles of extra driving round trip, well, the straw threatened to break the camel’s back, so to speak.
The upshot is that aiming for a 2013 return gives the core organizers a much needed year off. We’ll use this time to re-secure Burnwood and plan a Rendezvous #10 that will blow the doors off of pretty much everything in the world that has doors.
Stay tuned! |

Thanks everybody for making New River Rendezvous #9 the best one ever! The vibe was incredible! Thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, athletes and attendees who make this event one of the best climbing events of the year.
We especially want to thank everybody that stopped by the NRAC tent to hang out and learn more about climbing in the gorge. We really tried to make people more aware of NRAC through the event, and I think we hit our goal!

The New River Alliance of Climbers wants YOU to design the logo for the 10th annual New River Rendezvous (2012)! This is a contest sponsored by Mountain Hardwear with a prize of $1,000 worth of Mountain Hardwear merchandise. The contest started on April 18th, 2011, and continues through May 11th, 2011. To enter, you must have either attended a Rendezvous in the past or plan to attend this year's event.
From the Contest Facebook Page:
"Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the New River Rendezvous – one of the most celebrated climbing events in the United States. We are inviting current and past attendees to become a part of the legacy, by designing a logo to mark the event.
Winning Logo needs to be made available as an .ai or .eps file. Line art should be no thinner than 1pt in width. The words “New River Rendezvous” or “Vous” and “New River Alliance of Climbers”. Design should reference the 10th anniversary of the event.
The spirit of the Rendezvous is one of good, clean, friendly fun; of grassroots participation and non-commercial energy; of jumping in with both feet, howling at the moon, bonding with the tribe, and doing the right thing: supporting the sport we love. Creativity, collaboration and idealism are what inform us as we shape the event each year. Do the right thing: support the crags we love here at the New River Gorge."

A big thanks to everybody who helped move stones at Whippoorwill on April 9th! We managed to stack hundreds of large lake rocks in preparation for rebuilding the Whippoorwill trail in June.
Stay tuned for the June project - we'll need more volunteers!
