No Rendezvous in 2012

New River Rendezvous #10 has been postponed until 2013.

Endless Wall
Access by Area
Written by Mike Williams

Endless Wall runs unbroken for nearly 4 miles from Beauty Mountain to just upstream of the Bridge Area. There are three parking areas used to access the different areas of the cliff. The Fern Buttress trail is used only to access the base of the cliff. The Endless Wall trail leaves the Fern Creek Parking lot and parallels the cliff top eventually ending up at the Nuttall Parking Lot. This is a beautiful hike past numerous spectacular overlooks that can be done as a loop if you hike the short stretch of road between the two lots. Along the trail you will also pass by three sets of ladders used by climbers to access the cliff base. The ladders are up to 60 feet high and can be dangerous for inexperienced climbers and children.

Fern Point Area

Fern Buttress Parking:
Fern Buttress is the downstream segment of Endless Wall.

From Main Street in Fayetteville, get on Hwy 19 North. At 2.3 miles take a right on Lansing Rd. This is the second right after crossing the gorge. Drive 0.3 miles and take a right onto Fayette Station Rd 82 at the General Store. The road immediately forks. Take the left fork and continue another 0.7 miles to a large pullout on the left with a Park Service information board. Hike down the steep trail that leaves the parking lot and a short five minute walk brings you to the cliff.

Fern Creek Parking:
A 15 minute hike from this parking lot will bring you to the rim of the gorge and the Fern Creek climbing access ladders. This is the best approach for the Fern Point climbing areas.

From Court St. in Fayetteville head north on Hwy for 2.3 miles. Turn right on Lansing Rd. and continue down Lansing for 1.3 miles to the Fern Creek Parking Area.

The mighty Cirque

Nuttall Parking:
A 10 minute hike from this parking area will bring you to the Cirque ladders at the rim of the Gorge. This is the best approach for the Cirque and the upstream areas of Endless Wall.

Drive another 0.5 miles past the Fern Creek parking area and you’ll come to the Nuttall Parking Area.
